Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, such as shopping the Kindle Store and downloading content. In low coverage areas or in 1xRTT only coverage, wireless usage will consume battery power more quickly. Whispernet utilizes Amazon's optimized technology plus Sprint's national high-speed (3G) data network to enable you to wirelessly search, discover, and download content on the go. Your books and periodicals are delivered via Whispernet in less than 60 seconds. And unlike WiFi, you never have to hunt for a hotspot.

        International Travelers Beware,  2009-11-20

Information that you won't find except as a note in the users guide

For an extra $60 over the US only version I have the great fortune of being eligible to pay $4.99 extra per week for my subscriptions, or $1.99 extra per book!! Nearly as awesome as the original AT&T iphone data roaming "plans"

Since this was one of the main reasons I picked the kindle, it will probably get returned for a Nook (with WiFi which is ubiquitous)

Thank you Amazon for not identifying these fees up front...

Amazon's Personal Document Service not available in Canada,  2009-11-20

I live in Canada, and bought the Kindle the day it was available here. I was looking forward to being able to read my other e-books on the Kindle, but when I emailed a couple to my Kindle's email address, I got an email to my hotmail account telling me the conversion feature isn't available in Canada yet. The product page is misleading. Still giving it four stars because it's a lovely device, very easy to read.

        New to Kindle,  2009-11-20

Great product. I recently enrolled in Air War College for the Air Force and was happy to learn that I could transfer all the readings onto my Kindle!

Only complaint is the extra fees for those people oversees. Although it's easy to avoid the charges by sending to your computer and synching that way, I don't recall detail of these charges in the advertisements.

Also, Kindle should move ahead with the experimental efforts of connecting to the internet and transferring .pdf files and make them a standard feature.

        LOVE MY KINDLE,  2009-11-20

After visiting a friend and her Kindle, I was hooked. I read a great deal and was spending quite a bit of money on books. My Kindle goes with me everywhere. I love that you can increase the size of the print. Also there are so many wonderful books to choose from. I love the fact that you can get many books for little or no money. This allows you to get acquainted with a new author. Also I like the fact that I now have a listing of all the books I have read with Kindle. I could go on and on but the best way is to experience Kindle is to buy one. If you love to read you cannot go wrong...........

Promising but maybe not there yet,  2009-11-20

This review is written after about a couple of weeks usage. I brought it on a trip to another country and during that time it worked flawlessly.

What I don't like:
- Amazons conversion of pdf to the internal format (mobi) is far from perfect and only works good on pdf's with a simple single flow of text and preferably no images.
- The books are presented as a plain list. The list can be sorted on date and more but it is still only a simple list. Folders must be added and rumours hope that this is a feature that will be added in an update in 2010. Please Santa, make it so and make the folders dynamic and based on tags.
- I would have preferred if there were a way to hide books (not delete) when lending the unit or when showing it in public. Maybe this could be achieved if there were folders.
- DRM is as always not good for the customer but the unit can use non-DRM books too.
- The background could be more white, I think it is a little too dark grey as is. Maybe it is better in a sunny country, but here it is pitch black winter currently.
- There is a clock in the unit but there is no way to set it to correct time when the wireless don't supply the correct time and time zone.
- Not being able to change battery worries me, but only time will tell if that is a problem.

What I like:
- The ability to bring a lot of books in a small package, perfect when traveling.
- Being able to simply put it away and not need to insert a bookmark.
- Flicker free screen of course.
- Ability to download books and have books or other documents email directly to the unit in many countries.

It also feels a little fragile and could be lighter which probably is a contradiction.

Official support for plugins would be nice too.
